Sports Podiatry at Sevenoaks Podiatry
Sports Podiatry is a specialised field of Podiatry dealing with the treatment of athletes and lower limb injuries. Here at Sevenoaks Podiatry we have an extensive history of treating professional and recreational sports patients from Ironman athletes, GB marathon runners, GB basketball representatives and international tennis players.
We offer an exceptional level of care to all of our patients, going into great detail to identify why the pain and injuries are present. Although virtually any part of your body can be injured during sports exercise, the term “sports injury” is reserved for injuries that involve the musculoskeletal systems which include the muscles, ligaments, bones, cartilage etc.
Some sports injuries result from accidents; others are due to poor training practices, improper equipment or footwear, lack of conditioning, poor nutrition, insufficient warm-up and stretching or misalignment i.e. incorrect biomechanics.
Management of injuries should be directed towards repair and recovery as well as the factors which may prevent recurrence of the injury. This will often include addressing incorrect foot and lower limb biomechanics and it is not unusual for even small misalignments to be the underlying cause of a problem.
